Before looking for a puppy, please consider giving a rescue or rehomed Dandie a home. Adult Dandies can make wonderful companions, and from time to time one simply needs the right new family through no fault of their own.
If you need help caring for or rehoming your own Dandie, we are here for you too — without judgement, whether that means temporary support to keep you together or finding the right new home.
This is why we have a specialist rescue and rehoming coordinator, Ali Cox-Purcell. She is your first point of contact to owning a Dandie.
You can email her, or complete the contact form below. Her email address is puppy-coordinator@caledoniandandies.com
Simply because every Dandie matters.
About our service:
Sometimes life changes. Illness, family circumstances, bereavement, moving home, or changes in work can mean that, despite the very best intentions, someone is no longer able to care for their Dandie.
If that ever happens, you are not alone.
The Caledonian Dandie Dinmont Terrier Club is here to help.
Putting the dog’s welfare first
Rehoming a much-loved dog is never an easy decision.
It can be emotional, stressful, and often comes with feelings of guilt. Our priority is never to judge. It is simply to help find the best possible outcome for both the dog and its owner.
Sometimes that means helping a Dandie find a new family.
Sometimes it means offering advice or support that allows the dog to remain where it already belongs.
Every situation is different.
Looking to offer a home?
Adult Dandies can make wonderful companions.
Many are already house-trained, understand family life, and settle quickly into a loving home. They often form incredibly close bonds with their new families and have many happy years ahead of them.
If you are considering giving a rescue or rehomed Dandie a home, we would be delighted to hear from you.
Finding the right match
Every Dandie has its own personality.
Some may be happiest as the only dog in the home. Others enjoy canine company. Some may love busy family life, while others would prefer a quieter retirement.
For that reason, we never believe in simply finding the first available home.
We believe in finding the right home.
Taking time to understand both the dog and its prospective family gives everyone the best chance of a happy future together.
If you need help
If you are worried that you may need to rehome your Dandie, please contact us as early as possible.
This also covers temporary help such as having to go into hospital, having broken a hip, caring for a spouse or have suddenly become widowed. We want to keep your Dandie in your life.
The earlier we know about a situation, the more options we have to help.
Everything will be treated with understanding, sensitivity, discretion and above all in confidence.
Can you help?
Rescue depends upon kind people.
Whether you can offer a permanent home, temporary foster care, transport, or simply help spread the word, your support can make an enormous difference.
Even if you are not currently looking for another dog, you may be able to help a Dandie on its journey to a new home.
Before you buy, please consider rescue
Most people looking for a Dandie hope to welcome a puppy into their lives.
However, from time to time, adult Dandies become available for rehoming through no fault of their own.
If your circumstances allow, offering an older dog a second chance can be one of the most rewarding experiences imaginable.
A promise for every Dandie
Every Dandie deserves a safe, loving home.
Whether they are eight weeks old or twelve years old, our commitment to the breed does not end when a puppy leaves for its new family.
We believe every Dandie should have someone looking out for them throughout their life.
Because every Dandie matters.
