Three Wonderful Days at the 2026 GWCT Scottish Game Fair
From 3–5 July 2026, the magnificent grounds of Scone Palace, Perth, once again played host to the GWCT Scottish Game Fair – Scotland’s premier celebration of the countryside. Thousands of visitors travelled from across the UK and beyond to enjoy a packed weekend of country sports, conservation, shopping, food, music and, of course, dogs. The event once again demonstrated why it has become one of the highlights of the Scottish outdoor calendar.
Weather worthy of a Scottish summer
The weather certainly added to the atmosphere. While Scotland always keeps visitors guessing, the weekend delivered plenty of warm spells with sunshine breaking through for much of the event. There were the occasional passing clouds – almost expected at any Scottish outdoor gathering – but conditions were ideal for exploring the showground, watching arena displays and spending time chatting with exhibitors and fellow enthusiasts.
Something for everyone
One of the great strengths of the Scottish Game Fair is its remarkable variety. Whether your interests lie in working dogs, fishing, falconry, shooting, equestrian displays or simply enjoying the beautiful surroundings of Scone Palace, there was never a shortage of things to see.
The bustling shopping village featured hundreds of exhibitors offering everything from country clothing and handcrafted gifts to artisan food, game produce and specialist outdoor equipment. Visitors could browse for hours before stopping to enjoy local Scottish produce and refreshments from the many food and drink vendors.
Throughout the weekend the main arenas were alive with demonstrations, competitions and displays. Working dogs showcased their incredible abilities, falconry birds soared overhead, and visitors were treated to a programme that blended traditional countryside pursuits with modern conservation education. Families found plenty to keep younger visitors entertained, while those wishing to learn more about wildlife management could visit the many conservation organisations exhibiting at the event.
A celebration of Scotland’s countryside
More than simply a country fair, the event continues to celebrate the people, traditions and organisations that help maintain Scotland’s rural heritage. The Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust placed science and practical conservation firmly at the centre of the weekend, demonstrating how research and responsible land management work hand in hand to protect wildlife for future generations.
The Caledonian Dandie Dinmont Terrier Club
The Caledonian Dandie Dinmont Terrier Club was delighted to be part of this year’s event, meeting both long-standing Dandie enthusiasts and many people discovering this unique Scottish breed for the very first time.
Our stand proved to be a wonderful place to introduce visitors to the history, character and charm of the Dandie Dinmont Terrier. Throughout the weekend we enjoyed countless conversations with prospective owners, current Dandie families and visitors simply wanting to learn more about one of Scotland’s most distinctive native breeds.
Events such as the Scottish Game Fair provide a fantastic opportunity to raise awareness of the breed, share responsible ownership advice and promote the work of the Club. It was particularly encouraging to meet so many people who had fond memories of Dandies from years gone by, alongside families considering welcoming one into their home for the first time.
Looking ahead
As the gates closed on another successful Scottish Game Fair, visitors left with full shopping bags, plenty of photographs, new friendships and lasting memories. Whether attending for the countryside pursuits, conservation, food, shopping or simply a great family day out, the 2026 GWCT Scottish Game Fair once again delivered three memorable days in one of Scotland’s most spectacular settings.
The Caledonian Dandie Dinmont Terrier Club would like to thank everyone who visited our stand over the weekend. We look forward to meeting many of you again at future events and continuing to promote and celebrate our wonderful Dandie Dinmont Terrier.
